Reduce arm swelling after breast cancer treatments
About 1 in 5 will experience breast cancer-related swelling that affects their arm and hand, or chest wall as a result of surgery or radiation therapy. The swelling, called lymphedema, can be reduced significantly and managed well with MLD therapy. Lymphedema from breast cancer can appear weeks, months or even years after the initial cancer treatments.
MLD therapy for other cancers
Cancers involving the removal of lymph nodes, surgery or radiation in the groin and pelvic areas can result in leg swelling. Lymphedema in these situations responds very well to MLD therapy to stop and reduce that swelling.
Cancers of the neck area (like thyroid or throat) generally cause swelling in the neck and face. Swelling can be short-term and clear up with time and/or MLD therapy. It can also become chronic (lymphedema) and then MLD therapy is recommended.
