MANUAL LYMPHATIC DRAINAGE THERAPY

Treating POST-COncussion syndrome

Early MLD therapy reduces symptoms and speeds recovery

The lymphatic system is at work in your brain just like the rest of your body. Called the glymphatic pathway, it's job is to clear proteins and cell debris all the time.  With concussion, this process is needed even more as your brain works to heal from injury.

Often rest and patience is the only suggested treatment for concussion.  MLD engages with the glymphatic system to promote lymph flow and encourage healing. Because concussion effects are felt within hours of injury and can linger for months, start MLD as soon as possible after the injury.

How MLD helps:

  • Reduces nausea
  • Calms the nervous system to promote rest and relaxation
  • Allows for clearer cognitive function (concentration, memory)
  • Reduces dizziness to avoid balance/coordination issues

What you should know:

  • The sooner you start MLD therapy after concussion, the better
  • MLD every 1-2 days for the first week or so after concussion is recommended
  • In-hospital and at-home treatments can be arranged when needed
  • Post-concussion symptoms (even weeks and months later) will reduce with MLD
