MLD (manual lymphatic drainage therapy) is a gentle, hands-on therapy that works with your lymphatic system to repair and heal. It effectively treats a wide range of health issues, injuries and post-surgical situations where swelling and pain are present. Treatments are covered by most insurance companies and don't require a medical referral. Is MLD right for you? Call us!
What does MLD do?
How does it work?
Your lymphatic system plays the central role in immunity and healing, and regulates fluid levels in your body. Think of it like a highway where lymphatic fluid flows, picks up bacteria and cell debris, and ensures its disposed of through normal body functions. When there's a block in the road - caused by injury or disease - this process is slowed or even stopped. This causes swelling, pain and restricted movement. MLD therapy uses specific techniques to move lymphatic fluids around road-blocked or damaged areas so it can flow again and healing can begin.
Is MLD therapy simply massage therapy by another name?
No! MLD isn’t massage therapy. MLD therapy techniques are designed to work directly with the lymphatic system to achieve results. Therapists who provide MLD must have specific training and certification to do so. A core purpose of lymphatic massage therapy is to reduce and eliminate swelling. Swelling is your body's natural response to damage and disease. Before healing can begin, swelling must be addressed. Read more Q&A about MLD.
